About Us
A Heritage of Service, Over 65 Years of Service. The YMCA originated in 1844 in London, England. YMCA came to North America in 1851. Today there are more than 2,500 YMCAs serving 20 million kids, adults and seniors. The City of Worthington and the YMCA became partners to create the first YMCA. The first home was the former Union Congregational Church. Founders included E.O. Olson, Harry Rickers, V.M. Vance, John L. Olson, Henry Hagge, R.W. Lowry, C.E. Stower and Alvin Graf. The YMCA moved to the Old Armory. Built in 1910, many improvements and changes were made to build a gym, handball court, physical fitness area and offices. A $235,000 capital campaign built the swimming pool addition. $894,000 was raised to construct a new gymnasium and fitness center. Also, renovation of the “Old Armory†area and exterior of the YMCA was completed. In 1987 A campaign for $460,000 was completed for lobby and entry improvements. Now in 2009 the YMCA comleted $9.6 million new faility project and constructed a new facility on the Campus of Minnesota West Community and Technical College and partned ain with theCity of Wrthington, who pid for the cnsruction of the indoor and outdoor aquaitcs center. The full service facility opened o November 2, 2009.

In addtion, through everything we do, we seek to model and use the values of CARING, HONESTY, RESPECT AND RESPONSIBILITY. In so doing we help build strong kids, strong families and strong communities.
Why We Need a New Website
It will assist in commuication of all the programs and services to the entrire community and help reduce expeditues in mailing s that more youth andfamilies can be served on an annual basis. With the technical electronic age we are in the prope web siteis a must.
How Our New Site Will Help Make the World Greener
As mentonied earleir by educatin our YMCA comminituy to utiliize the site, we will be able to save reources. We will post daly notices and all newsletters and progam materials llow for on line registration which will be more convienent for members too andwill save on trave to the Y just or that puirpose. We can then continue to reduce waste by more electronc marketing to our members and program particiants,vs maiiking and printing materials in the thousands weekly.
