Someplace Safe
About Us
Someplace Safe is a non profit organization providing free and confidential advocacy services to victims and survivors of Domestic Abuse, Sexual Violence and General Crimes in West Central Minnesota. Since opening a regional shelter in 1979, Someplace Safe has expanded its programming to include nine outreach offices and parent-child exchange and visitation centers in five locations.
Our Mission
Someplace Safe's mission is: To create a safer world for everyone, we work to eliminate violence and oppression through advocacy, education and services.
Why We Need a New Website
Our current website is incredibly basic and quite generic, which does very little to help promote the important work that we do or the services we offer within our communities.A new and improved website would be incredibly beneficial towards Someplace Safe accomplishing our mission for a number of reasons:
#1 Given the work that we do, our top priority would be to have a website that is safe for victims and survivors to use. It is crucial that our website have all the needed information for individuals in dangerous situations, but it is also key that they have the option to leave the website quickly if needed. This improvement would greatly enhance the option to access to our information for those who need it most.
#2 A new website that is well organized and easy to navigate would make it much easier for Someplace Safe to share our information with the greater community. In order to educate, we must be able to share our information in a way that is easily understandable and accessible to the general public.
#3 A professional, cohesive look is key to promoting Someplace Safe’s services to the greater community. It is often difficult for non profit organizations to devote significant time or money to their “image†or publicity, but this is incredibly important when attempting to secure funding, donations, volunteers or other services that our clients may need.
#4 Finally, a strong web presence is becoming increasingly important as more and more victims and survivors look to the Internet for the information and resources they need. The creation of a comprehensive website that not only provides information about Someplace Safe and our specific services, but that also includes in depth information about the larger issues of domestic abuse and sexual violence, would be an incredibly helpful resource and tool.
How Our New Site Will Help Make the World Greener
A new website is crucial to the improvement of Someplace Safe’s greener future and the sustainability of our organization. Someplace Safe has been working towards becoming a greener organization for the past couple of years. We have taken steps to update and make certain forms and information available online, which has in turn cut down on wasteful copies of outdated materials. We have also attempted to share our newsletters and upcoming events on our website rather than making hundreds of unnecessary copies. However, there is no doubt that we are in need of assistance to further improve upon our current efforts. We envision a website that would allow Someplace Safe to expand upon our current capabilities for communication, dissemination of information, and general education and awareness in order to ensure the future sustainability of our organization and our ability to continue serving and advocating for victims of crime in Minnesota.
